Hudson Speedway Honors Legacy with Choppy Baldwin Memorial
Hudson, NH — June 2, 2025
Hudson Speedway officially launched back into action on Sunday with the running of the prestigious Choppy Baldwin Memorial, an event honoring the Baldwin family’s deep roots in New England short track racing. The Modifieds headlined the card with twin 25-lap features, backed by a full slate of Super Streets, Ridge Runners, Six Shooters, Pure Stocks, and Thunder Lights.
The Modifieds took center stage in the Choppy Baldwin Memorial, and fans were treated to two thrilling 25-lap showdowns.
In Feature #1, it was Tyler Leary (Hatfield, MA) who set the tone for the season. After topping time trials with a blistering 13.280-second lap, Leary carried his speed into the main event, leading the field to victory. Jeremy Zullo (Claremont, NH) finished a close second, with Ty LeClerc (Taunton, MA) rounding out the podium. Andrew Brousseau (Claremont, NH) and Adam LaPoint (Swanzey, NH) completed the top five.
The second feature flipped the script. Ty LeClerc muscled his way to the front and held off Leary in the closing laps to claim the win. Leary settled for second, while Brousseau grabbed third. Zullo and LaPoint once again brought home solid top-five runs. With two different winners on the night, the division is already shaping up to be a tightly contested championship battle.
The Super Streets delivered another memorable Baldwin family moment as Charles Baldwin (Hudson, NH) dominated both his heat and the 25-lap feature, putting the Baldwin name in victory lane on the night dedicated to Choppy. Justin Beecher (Billerica, MA) chased him home in second, while young gun Aiden White (Claremont, NH) impressed with a podium finish in third. Corey Fanning (Mapleville, RI) and Chip Laquire (Franklin, NH) rounded out the top five.
The Ridge Runners produced a clean sweep for Brian Caswell (Buxton, ME), who claimed both his heat and the 25-lap feature. Caswell held off Stone Slattery (Pelham, NH) for the win, while Joseph Fraser (Nottingham, NH) worked his way to third. Trystin Bodwell (Sanford, ME) and Teagan Edson (Ashburnham, MA) completed the top five.
In the Six Shooters, it was business as usual for Michael Yeaton (Amherst, NH). Yeaton kept his hot streak alive by winning both the heat and the 20-lap feature. Mike Comtois (Pelham, NH) ran strong in second, with Garrett Barry (Whately, MA) finishing third and Scotty Blanchard (Rockport, MA) fourth.
The Pure Stocks put on one of the most competitive races of the night, with Adrian Smith (Unity, NH) working his way to the front to score victory. Jason Townsend (Nashua, NH) stormed through the field to finish second, while Mackenzie Belisle (Londonderry, NH) claimed third after an impressive run. Shayla Kirk (Pepperell, MA) and Derick Greenaway (Pepperell, MA) rounded out the top five. Smith’s consistency, combined with Townsend’s charge through the pack, sets the stage for a heated points race this summer.
The future stars of the sport shined in the Thunder Lights division, where Patrick Russell (Dracut, MA) and Sophia Charbonnier-Marshall (Hudson, NH) split the honors. Charbonnier-Marshall grabbed the heat win, but Russell struck back in the 15-lap feature to take the trophy. Emily McInnis (Hudson, NH) rounded out the podium with a strong third-place run.
The Choppy Baldwin Memorial was more than just the season opener — it was a tribute to Hudson Speedway’s history, its racing families, and the passion that continues to drive the sport. With side-by-side action across every division, the Baldwin family legacy was honored in the most fitting way: with thrilling short-track racing at the high banks
