Sunday Funday - May 26th Recap

First Sunday Funday of the Season in the Books!

Hudson, NH – One of the changes made for the 2024 season was the addition of Sunday Fundays to occur a few times during the season. Sunday May 26th was the first of four scheduled Funday events with the next scheduled for Sunday June 23rd for the Hudson Grand Prix featuring the NELCAR Legends and Bandoleros along with Figure 8 races, Pro- V8, Hudson Hornets, Hudson Hippos, Spectator Races, 1 on 1 Drags, and 4/6/8 Enduros!

The 603 Mini Cup Racing Series were in town to kick off the Funday action. Kendall Whitehall Sr in the 13 led the race early and was able to hold on for a couple restarts till late race contact sent him spinning. Ken Goodrow in the 7 would inherit the race lead holding on to capture the win. Whitehall Sr. was able to drive his way back to the 2nd spot by the time the checkers flew. Jason Romprey in the 1 rounded out the podium; for full results check out the 603 Mini Cup Racing Series on Facebook.

Hudson Hippos are a new division for the 2024 season made up of Mini-Vans and SUV’s. For the first time out despite only having two on hand Chuck Clark (08) and Steve Clark (81) put on a show for the fans. Chuck Clark took the win. With many competitors still working on finishing their Hippos and the interest in the pits after seeing these two compete the sky is the limits for the next race!

Mini Stocks rolled into town for their first of two scheduled appearances of the season at the High Banks of Hudson. Erin Aiken (33) won the heat race and would start the feature 4th. Reagan Buffum (60) and Chris Moulton (15) started on the front row of the feature but on the first lap the 18 of Dick LaMotte would get into the back of Aiken sending her for a spin and causing the rear panel and bumper to be ripped off the car. Aiken’s crew would make quick work of the damage and get her back onto the track. Dylan Quinn in the 44 would lead lap 1 before Buffum would take over the top spot for the next two circuits. Quinn would regain the lead on lap 4, holding the spot until LaMotte took the lead on lap 15. Aiken would follow LaMotte around Quinn taking over the 2nd spot. Aiken would try everything she had to catch LaMotte but would come up short. LaMotte took the win with Aiken in 2nd and Quinn finishing 3rd.

Pro-V8 Sportsman took part in the funday action 16 cars deep. Matt Robinson (99) and Mitchell Wendell (21) took the heat race wins. With the hardnosed racing action that has become the calling card of the division fans were treated to side by side racing for 25 laps with a few cautions being thrown for spinning cars but it was Chrissy Rizzuto (06x) who had the worst of it ending her day on the back of the wrecker after contact to the left rear caused her left rear tire to exit the vehicle. The closing laps proved to be extremely eventful as the 75 of Scott Douphinette used a last lap pass to capture the win. Scott Duval driving the 74 finished 2nd and Mike Wollinger in the 93 wrapped up the podium.

The newly named Hudson Hornets (formerly the Ladies Enduro) went out to put a show on for the fans with Callie Osborne in the 59 picking up her first career win. The 10 lap Spectator race and 1 on 1 drag’s, always a fan favorite, were hotly contested but it would be Charlie Guardino in his famous black blazer winning both events. The 4 cylinder enduro was filled with racing action all around the famed ¼ mile track as Alby Ovitt (135). The 6/8 cylinder enduro was won by Buddy Wilkins (16).

Hudson Speedway is back to its regular divisions of racing next Sunday June 2 with the Mighty Mike Lewis Memorial/Summer Six Pack Series 50 Lapper for the Super Streets plus NELCAR Legends and Bandoleros, Six Shooters and Pure Stocks. Hot Laps start at noon and racing action starts at 115pm! For more details or to purchase tickets online in advance check out hudsonspeedway.com under the schedule tab!
